Origin of the Australian Labradoodle:

The Australian Labradoodle was originally bred in Australia in the 1980s. It all started when a man named Wally Conron, who worked for the Royal Guide Dog Association of Australia, was trying to create a hypoallergenic guide dog for a woman whose husband was allergic to dogs.

He first crossed a Labrador Retriever with a Standard Poodle—and that was the beginning of the Labradoodle. But it didn’t stop there. Over the years, breeders in Australia added other breeds like the English Cocker Spaniel, American Cocker Spaniel, and Irish Water Spaniel to enhance their temperament, coat quality, and size. This more refined version is what we now call the Australian Labradoodle—distinct from the first-generation Labradoodle.
